Tagged Highlights I grew up in a very small town in Wisconsin The city has really grew on me profoundly I really loved that I was able to get my education I'm here now fighting for my son because she lost custody of him I found my village of people which is the positive I moved to Boston to live with my friends give them opportunities to grow in their skills and explore their interests Grades help us get into better jobs They want to get in their feelings and be like that's corny I was just here for my protocol and it was many months this is one of the reasons I initiated my stay I want Boston to be the educated state that it is more educated and more peaceful I want the charm that the Boston I grew up with The cost of living is getting too high in Boston I just love the diversity of our city I feel a little bit bad about it how I was so determined I wanted the children like me to be able to see themselves on me My family that believes that you need to give back to your community My parents wanted the best for us they were immigrants I would be stuck there forever which is the worst fate Being here is my independence I wanted to stay in Western Mass I think I've lived in every neighborhood like each year I've moved somewhere else I had not had a better private instructor or just person to talk to Not every kid is meant to go to college I love how tight-knit the community is and how just very much like DIY It's got to be developing the whole student for the real world A big part of my musicianship is that I'm a multi-instrumentalist The rooted feeling of being a Bostonian or being from here The whole thing about almost a separation of arts and culture My family as in the generation above me are survivors of the Khmer Rouge It just recently started and then it started becoming a thing out of scratch I got a job at the circus and love doing circus ever since I found the circus community here because I grew up doing circus The shining city in and out of the trees as we say Our theater season is about to take off and I'm pretty excited I just really want to see more of us take to this Become a vendor going to Chicago city schools and teach kids film Keeping Boston accessible so that people can come to school here Rent control is one thing to keep the extended community I think I dabble in way too many different art forms I came for the sole purpose of studying at Berklee I'm not surrounded by family I'm not surrounded by friends so much I was looking for a similar circus to the one I was a part of A lot of racial and racially tensioned experiences either that I've gone through I stayed and continued working in movement arts I had to work two jobs in addition to going to college full time The pay is just not enough to sustain a comfortable living It was my elementary school years occurred at a very traumatic time There's not a lot of minority students It's pretty white across the board My dad came from Canada as a Holocaust survivor's refugee he missed a day because the bus never came Everyone has a goldendoodle and is pregnant I live in a really cool neighborhood now that feels like maybe a little bit better of a fit for me I was looking for a bigger city to be part of My mother originally adopted me from Cambodia What brought me to Boston itself was The Loop Labs opportunity I enjoy taking the ferry from East Boston to the north end I've experienced the city mostly from the student's perspective I sat in a couple listening sessions for a piece of legislation I immediately fell in love with that location If those parents didn't know about those resources you're already a step behind I think Boston definitely has some differences that I appreciate a bit more I missed out on opportunities because I wasn't living here It was very scary to be here at first because everything was shut down I definitely felt supported in Boston in terms of that Every school should have that accessibility for every student’s talent I moved to Boston on my own in the late summer I can rely on her and anything that she did My family also came here for economic reasons but I more came here for educational purposes You can't forget about the rest of us I just moved here for myself but my sister also lives in the area I didn't know what I wanted to do but I did know I feel like an outsider they feel like aliens there I feel like in these resources there could be people teaching them I've heard the gap in the different institutions in Boston there's so many schools in the city but they hardly partner with each other I know my future is set because of the resources that the exam schools have I always thought I would like to go back and live in United States permanently This is one of my dream country to come in My mother was the first one who came in Boston history is taught that means that would make people want to preserve it I absolutely loved winter guard which is like color guard I feel connected to this neighborhood I feel connected to this community I got kicked out of my first rehearsal space Just something that I carry to this day is the importance of understanding She could not spell her name S-O-L-O His disability and his inability to function within a general ed setting I think harboring more relationships within schools will be extremely important They realized after COVID that none of the third-graders could read You have to be realistic with kids with special needs There is no at all push for you to collaborate with people I moved here to do the arts and education program at Harvard I fell in love with a lot of organizations that work there I was a teen mom and I feel that I got a lot of support Oh that child will not make it just because what the child is at the moment We basically have a classroom of 22 kids on an IEP The last student with a special need spent the whole year in my classroom I can see a building with all types of learners in it I feel like BPS takes advantage of the communities and the parents I'm so committed to teaching black and brown children I followed her to be with her and moved to Boston Learning for everyday learning I got something I feel a lot more flexible in terms of my core structure I'm so fortunate and I'm so grateful to be in Boston every day is a learning in boston The legacy of innovation in fields like structural and environmental engineering The occasional events that happen frequently throughout the year It's harder to get into schools and jobs and all of those types of things What if I don't get to get the scholarship that I want I think it's pretty good finding a community in Boston Discipline is the only reason why I'm doing well with my life right now Everything that I did everything that I worked on was authentic I feel like I've had a very similar experience to most people here
